As many of you know, I am on break until Jan. 6. This past quarter has been amazing for Collective Action for Just Finance. Thanks to:

Land Back to the Wiyot Tribe (T25-2023)!

In November, the Wiyot Tribe in Northern California celebrated the return of the Digawututklh, a 357-acre section of ancestral lands that encompass open dunes, coastal forest, and access to Wigi (Humboldt Bay) and Shou’r (the Pacific Ocean). The return of Digawututklh builds on generations of organizing, most recently carried on through NEC member Dishgamu Humboldt, a tribally-controlled community land trust formed in 2020.

“I am deeply inspired and overjoyed by the return of 357 acres to the Wiyot Tribe.” remarked Carla Avila-Martinez, Friends of the Dunes Board Member. “This land back is a small but powerful act of justice, acknowledging that the land was unjustly stolen and rightfully belongs to the Wiyot people.”
